A friend out here told Jer about a place to get spices for cheap http://www.thespicehouse.com , and we got our order today. MMmmmmmm. even the receipt smells good. We got about 4 different curry blends, some big fat madagascar vanilla beans, a nice amount of saffron for a reasonable ( Read more... )

I plan on making my own vanilla extract and vanilla flavored sugar.

oooooOOOOH! they have whole star anise! You have no idea how long I have been looking for those. I need to stay away from it for a couple of months. Stupid alternator in my car. And they got it from stupid NAPA, not Bosch, and they overcharged me by about $100. Grrrr. Oh well. At least the car is running again.

What would you use the anise for? Well, lemme know what other kind of things you might be looking for, you might be getting something for your birthday. :)

Eep about the alternator and being overcharged. That really sucks. But you're right, at least the car is running.

I'm really hoping that swimmy wiggles shows up soon - I'm ready to give birth already. Oof.

I want to make flavored sugars and the star anise sugar is so pretty....plus it would be good to use for making buns, etc.

Anyway, keep me posted. I want to meet this critter. :)
