“Wow,” You panted, “that was some kiss.”
He pulled away reluctantly, and walked into the kitchen to put some distance between them, and some much needed self control. He looked in the refrigerator and pulled out a bottle of water. “Want one?” he asked, turning around.
Gackt looked confused. What just happened? He suddenly felt terribly exposed and self-conscious. He looked around and spied the robe Chacha had given him earlier. “Yeah, thanks,” he smiled weakly as he slipped into the robe.
Their fingers touched as You passed the bottle to the singer and sat down, the frisson between them palpable as a jolt of electricity.
They sat in silence for what seemed like forever until You reached for the empty water bottles. Gackt grabbed his hand and held on to it. “You, why are you doing this?”
“Doing what?”
“Pretending that there’s nothing between us anymore.”
You stared at the bottles in his hand. “I…don’t want to project my own selfish wants into whatever we have left.”
“What we have left is whatever you want. I have always wanted you, that never changed.”
You looked up into the most heart-melting eyes he’d ever known. “I never hoped for anything more than to just stay by your side. Everything else was just icing on the cake of my dreams. After all I've put you through I was afraid to hope there could still be an ‘us’."
Gackt leaned across the table and kissed him deeply.
You felt all the restrictions he’d put on himself melt away; he responded with a fervor he hadn’t felt in years.
“Can we take this to the bedroom?” he asked breathlessly when they finally broke away.
“Chacha has the key,” Gackt frowned, “though we could use the guest room.”
“Oh, pff,” You waved off Gackt’s concern, “that’s not a problem.”
They walked arm in arm down the hall, neither wanting to let go. Then You reached up to the top of the door jamb, pulling down an extra key.
Gackt’s eyes popped. “Damn! Wish I knew that earlier,” he murmured.
“I’m glad you didn’t. You’d probably be gone, and I would have missed the most wonderful Christmas gift I could have ever hoped for.”
