but you still have all of me (Erik/Charles, PG)

So, uh, I haven't written fic in (literally) years. But inspiration struck in the middle of the night (in the shower, no less) and I decided to sit down and actually write something. What came out reminded me that while I tend to avoid reading angst, I apparently have no qualms about inflicting it on others D:

Thank you! I watched the first X-Men movie again recently and I got to thinking about Erik's bitterness and resentment against Charles ("I will bring you hope, old friend, and I ask only one thing in return - don't get in my way." D:) and I decided that it's probably at least partly Charles's fault :P

Hee! I totally rewatched that recently too and that scene stood out to me. Prequels (when well done) make things resonate so much more. I can definitely understand his bitterness- here are the humans, still trying to identify and segregate Erik's people, and Charles is still wanting him to change.

Gah, I love them, even though they rip me to pieces.

It was a little jarring at first to encounter all the inconsistencies between the original trilogy and First Class, but overall I think the prequel did make me appreciate the originals more. James McAvoy totally knew what he was talking about when he said in an interview that fans needed and wanted to see the genesis of Prof X and Magneto's relationship. Having that backstory gives everything more depth, somehow.

Ugh, I knew that when I got into this pairing I'd be setting myself up for heartbreak. I think I underestimated the extent of it D: But they're so perfect and right for each other that it makes all the pain worth it ♥
