Tour, Day 3

Sep 30, 2011 23:03

Slept late, my gut woke me up.
Went to a local thrift store, "The Treasure Chest" to find lounging pants, and managed a lovely set of sweatpants (with more pockets than most regular pants!) for $2.
Took those, my nifty washable shoes, and the things I'd worn on the train to the local laundromat: "Missing Sock Laundromat" (I still think that's ( Read more... )

What is that a monument to?

As an early adopter of toe socks, I'm very interested in those Vibram shoes myself. Alas, they're seriously out of my price range. The shoes I've been wearing all summer (and wearing as indoor shoes for longer than that) are completely submersible and washable, and cost me $15 last year (on sale). They're bright purple, molded in one piece, curved to fit the shapes of the human foot, flip-flops from Crocs. Tonight it's gotten chilly enough to wear socks (huzzah!) and my old Birkenstock Arizonas.

I've no earthly clue; I know I read it briefly last night (at least the big text at the top) - it didn't stick, whatever it was.

I've not seen the FiveFingers in Purple. I had been promised a pair by a difficult person (see posts of a few months ago), and when nothing the individual had offered me came through (or stayed), I decided to go ahead and get them on my own. They are one of the wisest investments I've made lately; the strap around the foot tightens the flap in the arch, and so the arch support is adjustable. Likewise, as they can be sterilized (as yours can, too), they do not develop a permanent culture, and I'm VERY fond of that notion.

I don't think the FiveFingers come in purple in men's styles, but I know that some of the women's styles come in lavender (often combined with grey). My Crocs are made of "Croslite", which is their proprietary plastic compound that has a bacteriostat permanently incorporated into it, and they are eminently cleanable. (Not like my Birkies, which can get really stinky in the summertime - although those can be cleaned also, rather laboriously.)

I wear sandals or other very unrestrictive styles all the time; if I added FiveFingers to my shoe wardrobe, I might never be able to stuff my feet into a pair of ordinary shoes again. (In fact, I probably can't anyway.) I've just been having an LJ conversation with maellenkleth about high-heeled shoes. She's over six feet tall, but she does wear properly dressy "feminine" shoes when appropriate. I never learned how to walk in high heels at all - at the age when other girls were learning things like how to wear heels and apply makeup, I was learning things like how to solder mil-spec and mix cement. In the dressing room, we spritz the costumes (shoes included) with vodka, between shows, to kill bacteria and have the least effect on the dresser or actor.

The cheapest stuff works the best!
