Got into Memphis about an hour later than Amtrak predicted. Andy Cohen called about 6:30am, to say he was there to pick me up, and the train got in around 7:30am. Thank you, dear. As I say, it's whuppin' me, but I think I'll survive it, and be able to plan for the future better, now that I know more of what my tolerances are.

I am eternally grateful that some enterprising Native American figured out a way to grow "wild" rice as a crop, instead of having to canoe around in the shallows looking for truly wild plants to harvest. I don't think they've tinkered with it by selective breeding or anything, just created suitable places to plant it. Anyway, it means wild rice has gone from a ridiculously expensive rarity to a treat that even someone of modest means can enjoy fairly often. (Did I ever give you my recipe for Three-Rice Stuffing With Walnuts And Sherry?) Wild rice with beans would be very close to "authentic Native American food" - and it must taste awesome!

Be gentle with yourself, my friend. Treat yourself as well as you treat your harp.
