Anyone know a good reason why central air conditioning might cause noise on the phone line & interfere with DSL service? And/or how one might ameliorate it?

Does your phone line run close to the A/C unit? If so, every time the unit kicks in, it might cause static on your line.

Hmm. The A/C unit itself in the backyard is pretty close, I think; the blower in the basement is 2-3m away from the phone line juncture.
Is there a good way of shielding the phone line?
