Girls, Podcasts, and Me.

Once in a while I try to listen to fannish podcasts. It seems to be a format that's growing in popularity, and I get my meta any way I can get. I've never found an amateur podcast I've enjoyed though, and the reason is so shallow that I genuinely feel bad about it.

I guess because of my job, I am kind of used to listening to people whose voices I don't find particularly pleasant...mine isn't all that great tbh. It's the "wet" voices I can't deal with. If I can hear the spit moving around in the speaker's mouth then I am so done with that.

What actually annoys me most about podcasts is when there is a group, and they're obviously all friends, and they start joking and laughing among themselves and going off on personal tangents. I listen to podcasts to feel like a part of fandom, not excluded from it.

When I was at university, I actually had to do a session with a voice specialist as a part of the program I was in. I learned that I have some vocal fry that I could work on with him if I wanted, but since it wasn't a speech impediment, I wasn't required to. So, it's possible my voice would be considered annoying too. Good thing I don't have a podcast!

Oh yeah, the injokes can be really irritating too. And sometimes they use such terrible recording equipment that there's static and other unpleasantness.
