That is so beautiful. I love the history you've created, the way you've crafted their story, and how it all comes together. He's right - it wouldn't have gone so well nine years ago, but it's wonderful now.
Lovely, sweet and so nice. Love the way you've handled the prompts and created this past for them, combining it perfectly with the present. Their conversation about wishing it had happened sooner was so them, too - I can see Abby wanting it to have happened earlier, with Gibbs being certain it's happened at the right time.
And this line: He loved that all he saw was love in her eyes and it suddenly hit him, that it was the same thing he always saw in her eyes (minus the few times he’d caught her doing something she wasn’t supposed too, and even then it was still there, just slightly clouded by mischief). is so very perfect :)
Gibbs wouldn't want to rush things if there was any degree of uncertainty. Even if he knew he loved her, he wouldn't be willing to risk their friendship until he was *absolutely certain* it was the right time.
And yeah, think of everything they would've had to go through as a couple if it had started right away. If they had, I don't know that they would've lasted - eps. his hiatus to Mexico. Better for them to have the slow build.
I love this idea! *makes it own head-canon to think of Gibbs and Abby as secretly married* It's very like the both of them to go out of order with that sort of thing - get married before being in a real relationship. :P Of course, they're never going to play by anyone's ideas of 'normal'.
I wasn't sure I could ever see them getting married, but if they did it would be for practical reasons like this, I think. Abby isn't exactly a rule follower - except for Gibbs' rules (of course) and seeing as he doesn't (that we know of) have any rules about when to get married...
