Lacking inspiration

My hp/sga fic is sucking balls (and not in the good way). I have been informed that my characterizations are off, and yet the tone/direction of the first part has trapped me into a theme/plotline that relies on that OOC characterization. I feel as though I kicked ass by doing the whole John as James thing, but somebody else could write a better

What OOC characterization do they say you're relying on?
