some songs seem to burn into your brain like a cd
burner. i always try to avoid 'don't speak' by no doubt ever
since it was all popular-like in 6th grade, but i just came up on my
itunes "pArty shuffle". it zaps me back in time to the pattison's west
skating rink which i went to with my basketball team and our high
school coaches who we thought were mondo amazing because they were in
high school and such. anyhow, we were there on a fri. night or
something and it was packed with all these junior high/high school aged
hoodlums and students and what not so it was intimidating to be these
little 6th grade girls. and then this one guy asked my coach for
a lighter and it was one of those, "he SMoKES?" thoughts. because
in 6th grade the only people you knew who smoked were uncles and risque
adults on movies that you weren't supposed to be watching anyway.
anyhow, it was a strange night and this song played on the way back to
the slumber party portion of the night. i was in the backseat
with stacie i think and alisha, one of the coaches, was in the front
seat with her boyfriend. (her having a boyfriend = another
whoaaaa moment) and then one of our coaches brother came
home at 4 am and she got mad at him. and then later he more or
less became best friends with this kid who was in a !gang (and who also
smoked)
this is a really terrific example of a random confusing entry.
this song will forever remind me of times when kids who needed lighters
were the most extreme things i had ever witnessed before.
yah hah.
