Democrats: Huge Pussies or Hugest Pussies?

May 23, 2007 19:08

I have such disgust and contempt for the Democrats in Congress right now. The Republicans are right; they are wimps, the most spineless set of cowards I have ever seen. It's enough to make me wonder if I should even bother voting anymore, since voting for Democrats in an effort to counter Republicans seems to be like trying to counter a volcano ( Read more... )

It's difficult to argue with the opposition when they're saying things that are...right. Go figure, those fuckers. So since I don't pay attention to the news at all, wanna fill me in on what exactly has gotten you peeved about our side?

Basically, after blustering about standing up to Bush for several months, they've backed down and agreed to fund the war with no strings attached, exactly as he demanded, making themselves look totally spineless and hypocritical in the process.

Remember, it took until 1975 to get us out of Vietnam, and there was a draft then.

Of course these things aren't going to work on the first try. It's going to take a few more funding showdowns before we can actually get enough votes (and remember it takes a supermajority of 60 in the Senate to really get something done- 67 if we're staring down a veto). The consensus just isn't there quite yet.

Another fun factoid: Most of the donations to Ralph Nader and the Green party these last few election cycles have been from conservative Republicans trying to peel votes away from Democrats.

The point isn't that we haven't succeeded in passing a bill to get out; we knew that wasn't going to happen as long as Bush is in office. The point is that we didn't have to pass this bill at all. We should have done like Edwards suggested and just sent the same bill back again. We should have gotten on TV and HAMMERED the message that we gave Bush his funding and he vetoed it. We should have shown some backbone and some principle when confronting a President whose approval and credibility is at a historic low. But instead, we blustered a lot, and then completely folded, showing that we really are all talk and no action. If we were just going to cave and give Bush everything he wanted, we should have done that in the first place and not bothered trying to make a stand that had no chance of succeeding. All this has done is make the Dems look weak and handed Bush and his 28% approval rating an unnecessary victory.
