If the reports are true that Obama is behind this, and that isn't just spin and misinterpretation of Obama saying Lieberman shouldn't be kicked out of the caucus (an entirely different issue), than we've really been taken for ride.
You do know that Obama campaigned on being "post-partisan", right? It's not like he was hiding these reconciliatory impulses; they've been out in the open all along.
There's being post-partisan, and then there's being stupid. This is the latter. Also, tolerating treachery in one's own ranks is entirely different from reaching out to the other side.
I was always leary of Obama's bipartisan shtick, since for the last 8 years, bipartisanship has meant giving Republicans exactly what they want. I had hoped that Obama had a bit more spine than that, but this is not a step in the right direction.
