I am not sure about the difference in renumeration between the teachers here and in the US. But some time ago, when we were taking a breather from our work in school, a colleague started dividing our pay by the number of hours we work both in school and at home. Going by hourly rates, we ended up being paid rather poorly! We looked at each other and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Oh, I know! My friend, Ms. A, when she started working as a Japanese teacher while she was still doing her PhD, she counted the hours she worked at home and at work and came to the conclusion that she was getting paid about the same as you would at McDonald's, just like her professors had warned her. ^^;;;
