Ki-ki-ki-ki-ki-ki-ki-ki...

...Mo-mo-mo-mo-mo-mo-mo-mo

This has been remade into this. The name remains the same: Friday the 13th. I only found out about this the other day. It could be a sack of shit. Its director, Marcus Nispel, is a particularly slick filmmaker who puts a sheen of unnecessary glossiness all over his films, which means it could ( Read more... )

oh .... NO!! Why???

you remember when we discussed horror movie sequels awhile back and I mentioned how much I dislike the notion of them? and it just keeps going and going and going... it never ends.

I've steered clear of most remakes in general, and all horror remakes (especially Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Even Jared Padalecki (who is in my fave tv show Supernatural) will not lure me to see this. so you'll have to let me know how it is compared to the original. that is if you choose to see it.

But really (not to beat this thing to death), the original and the first sequel (part II), of Friday the 13th were just such good campy horror films. that's why they were so fun and so memorable. these remakes are too slick. slick is not what makes a good horror movie (in my humble opinion).

okay - off soap box now. ^_^
thanks for indulging me:)

I always keep an eye on these horror remakes, but don't get to see all of them. Overall they don't really bother me too much, as the original versions are still there and aren't diminished by newer versions.

The remakes, by-and-large, are too slick and often have only an ounce of the charm or thrill of their predecessors, but on (few?) occasions when there is still a general desire, on the filmmakers' behalf, if they genuinely love the genre, to provide good shocks and gore or whatever, then I'm OK with that.

Horror is pretty much the only genre where I'm completely lenient to what is thrown at me; it kind of gets an automatic free pass from me; even if the general quality is a bit sub-par I still root out the good bits. Blame a mis-spent youth growing up with "cheap" horror, heh. But, yeah, slickness isn't my first requirement in all this at all... Scythe-wielding lesbian vampires in cloaks on the other hand...

you always help me to put things in a different perspective. I get so protective of the original movies (because I am such a purist, I guess), so I always think "no one can make a good remake." I'm sure there are some fun new horror movies out there, but I'm always afraid I'll just watch them with a skeptical eye.

haha - a misspent youth with "cheap" horror - sounds like my college days when I was watching whatever bad horror movies I could get my hands on. remember Frankenhooker? talk about bad!! and then there were the Reanimator movies. good old "B" movie fun!

are you gonna do some horror movie posts on the daily movie this month?
