I don't think it's that sinister, it's just that the state prioritizes protecting people from others over protecting people from themselves.

Also prioritizes protecting people from sudden death over protecting people from slow death.

Also the government does take steps to prevent smoking related deaths.

Seriously I think the war on terror is about stopping the Islamic world from uniting. A united Islamic middle east would pose a threat to America the country/corporation. This war has been going on for a long time, waged in secret by the CIA in between the more official "wars." How do you think all the secular dictators ended up where they are? Enemy number one, Al-Qaeda, has as its goal a united Islamic republic.

I wasn't suggesting sinister, I was suggesting screwy. Read the book (the link will take you to an entirely online version) for a bigger picture. Schooling is a deception for some really interesting- and sobering- reasons.
