Concon in June

The concon is scheduled for June 14. That means it will be in the news the weekend that Mira and I are getting married (regardless of the outcome). Which means it is likely that my mom will make some bigoted comments about homosexuality at some point during the weekend. Why do the homophobes want to ruin my wedding? Couldn't they wait until July so

I expect they'll all be at expensive cottages on the Cape after June, so they are trying to get it over with.
Maybe you could distract your mom - the Boston Early Music festival is at that
time as well, and it looks to be terrific this year. One hopes to avoid the worst case scenario of her waving shocking signs in front of the state house...

"Concon" (or con con or con-con, variously) is recent topical usage for the upcoming Massachusetts constitutional convention, now scheduled for the same time as the wedding. Since prohibiting marriage between persons of the same sex was found to be unconstitutional, certain persons thought it would be a good idea to amend said constitution. Feelings run high.

Don't worry too much about your wedding being ruined by an unfortunate remark. Your friends already have a good idea of your mother's views on the subject. We can shrug off a little confirmation.

I find unfortunate, as Cally terms it? Smile and excuse myself? I suppose that would be the politest thing, although suddenly walking away from someone seems rude, too.

What's the wedding web page URL? I can't find it by searching, but the search results reminded me of the movie "Monsoon Wedding" directed by Mira Nair and it's interesting to know that there is a woman named Mira James.
