Ever get embarrassed by your fandom? Like physically cringe when reading comments or watching videos from conventions and the like? I find that happening to me quite a bit lately. The Supernatural fandom is a big one. Back when it was a year or two old, I was proud to be a part of it and found it was full of some super awesome people and amazing ( Read more... )

I'm always surprised by the things people feel comfortable saying to someone else. Famous or other wise. I can kinda see it on the internet. The anonymity of the net leads people to doing and saying thing they wouldn't normally. (I know I have.) I'd like to think that those same people wouldn't dare say those things in person.
Now the few people that do feel the overwhelming urge to say these things in person. I would like to know what they invisioned their comments leading to. Do they really think screaming "I LOVE YOU!!" to a star is going to lead to the person turning around and saying "I LOVE YOU TOO! COME RUN AWAY WITH ME!"?
I have a tendency to think three steps ahead. If I say X then Y will happen, then Z will be said...and so on. I don't understand how people miss this process.

Exactly! It reminds me of children, basically. And I think your icon illustrates it fabulously.

well said you two...I don't understand why some people are the way they are, they just don't engage their brain before they open their mouth and whatever they are feeling just pours out...without the censor kicking in to stop it or even realizing that what they are saying could actually embarass that person.

Indeed. Brain-to-mouth filter seems to be broken on these people.

I thought I was being an elitist bitch or something, but I'm glad to see that other people agree with me.

Honestly? People in general have the mindset that actors aren't people. They CHOSE to live in the spotlight and therefore have no right to privacy and every aspect of their being is supposed to be available for fans.

I hate that mindset, and I think the internet has made it worse.

Agreed, the internet really has seemed to exacerbate the issue.

Yeah we've had a few pretty good rage sessions on the utter fail of the Supernatural fandom. It's sad really, used to be such a good one too.

I kind of like that they took such a hard line with the Indian actor there, sometimes it seems like the only way to keep the crazies in line.

That's my thinking too. Chances are with all the crazy fan-things throwing themselves at the celebrity, they'd probably take more notice and appreciate a slightly more sane and composed individual.
