Harry Potter

You know, as I read these books, I'm reminded more and more of Stephen Donaldson's Thomas Covenant series. The hero is reluctant and not really what you would call classically a hero. Harry is sometimes reluctant to do the right thing, he rebels and is generally very human. Though Harry is more actively eager to do the right thing in comparison ( Read more... )

I had not overtly thought of Harry as a reluctant hero, now that you put it that way I do indeed see it. Given my love for the flawed and or reluctant hero now I can see why I adore the character so much.

I really enjoyed Donaldson's Covenant's works. Given what happens in the first book, many don't continue to read...it think its a mistake not to given the set up but its also understandable.

That's a good comparison.

Not even what happens in the first book, but in the first 100 pages. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the series and wants to. Just be prepared for a bit of a shock.

*nods* Hence why I phrased it the same way. You know who I am and I kept reading. I understood what was going on and why. It wasn't "standard" so to speak.

But we ought to have lunch sometime rather than take up LJ space with vague hints and notions of something mysterious and shocking. :)

I didn't realize there was another one out. I have been woefully lax on my reading and keeping up with authors I find interesting.

I don't think we ever got to see deeply into the darkest fantasies of the characters but I am sure we saw several moments of "kill" in some of the younger character's moments. Fleeting moment passions or fantasy world passing thoughts should not be something one is judged by, should it?

If so I'd be busted many times over for wanting (temporarily) dumbass driver's heads to explode for doing dumbass crap. :)
