Embedded Programming

Hi kids.  I want to get into embedded programming but I have no idea where to start.  I was thinking of playing around with OpenMoko (http://www.openmoko.com/) but they don't have anything for sale yet.  I just want to get my feet wet.

Any ideas/advice?
