Gale Harold & Jude Law - Wary Reactions - PG13

[Cross posted to and v_bq_jude.]

Gale's steps were light as he moved past his brother's door, trying not to disturb his brother. It had been an interesting night out and he smiled as his thoughts drifted to Eliot.

For the last hour Jude had been resting on his bed. Not really doing anything just...thinking. Gerry had to work late and honestly he was feeling a bit restless. Jude looked up when he heard footsteps outside of his room and took in a breath. Gale...well, Gale and something else. Raising an eyebrow Jude pushed himself up off his bed and walked over to peek into the hallway.

The sounds of his brother moving in his room alerted Gale to the fact that his entrance had not gone unnoticed. He wasn't quite sure if he should call out or not, he took a sniff to confirm that his brother was alone.

"Gale?" Jude asked finally getting to his door. He wasn't too surprised to see Gale standing in the hallway and smiled. "Hey."

"Hey..." he turned to look at his brother, tentative smile on his face. "How is your night?"

"Quiet. Biding time before I go out." Jude looked Gale over, returning the smile. "Yourself?"

"I... uh... went horseback riding."

Jude couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at that. Horseback riding was something Jude had done himself but that had been when it was a necessity. "Well that's different."

He shrugged, looking sheepishly up at his brother. "First time for everything, yeah?"

"What made you think of doing that?" Jude asked, leaning against the door frame.

"Would you believe me if I said a date?"

Jude laughed and waved for Gale to come in rather then keeping their conversation out in the hallway. "Why would I not believe you?"

"I really don't know... its been awhile since I've had one though," Gale followed, very aware of the scent he carried but always willing to spend some quality time with his brother. "You've been locked away all night?"

"So far. I'm supposed to meet Gerry later." Jude walked back over to his bed to sit down, looking over his shoulder at Gale. "Was your date fun?"

"I'm not keeping you am I?" He stood near his brother, unsure of if he might need to leave soon.

Jude shook his head and hoped Gale would relax enough to take a seat. "No, he has to work late."
"Mind if I sit and bug you for awhile then?" Even as he spoke, Gale sat on the edge of his brother's bed.

"You don't bug me when you want to visit." Stretching out Jude shifted back further onto the bed, taking note of how Gale was moving. He looked unharmed, seemed happy...and had a date with a were apparently.

"Well that's good," Gale smiled, taking a risk he stretched himself out on top of his brother's bed. "'cus I like to visit."

Smiling Jude rested his elbows on his knees. "So how else was your date?"

"It was quite date like," he gave a cheeky grin.

Jude laughed and used his foot to give Gale's thigh a slight shove. "So does that mean you didn't do anything naughty?"

"What kind of vamp do you take me for?" Gale pretended to be offended at his brother's words.

Giving Gale's thigh another pat Jude rested one of his arms behind his head, propping it up. "I slipped into Gerry's dreams and spied before I made a move on him."

"Wait, what?!" Gale sat up a bit, shocked at Jude's words. "You were in his dreams?"

Jude couldn't help but chuckle a bit at Gale's reaction. "It's one of my gifts so to speak. I don't do it often," he said and looked up at the ceiling. "Can take a lot out of you to get inside someones head."

"Well isn't my big brother just awesome?" Gale laughed at himself and laid back down, his head on his brother's shoulder.

Jude didn't flinch when Gale laid down against him, instead keeping his focus on the ceiling still. "Most vampires have something different about them," he said and reached over to rest his hand on the top of Gale's head. "Can help protect us if needed."

"Eh... I got nothing..." he shrugged as best he could laying against his brother.

"You're young still in that regard. I didn't figure things out for a few decades." Brushing his fingers through Gale's hair he finally looked down at Gale's head. "The were you went out with is safe right?"

"You are awful cuddly tonight," Gale smiled, ignoring his brother's question, not hearing his brother's mention of a were, and burrowing in closer. "I like it."

/And you're avoiding./ Rather then speaking out loud Jude sent that thought to Gale in his head but gave the younger vamp's head another pat. "Have to learn something from my human."

"Hey! I heard you!" Gale propped his chin on Jude's shoulder to look him in the eye. "I wasn't sure if we could do that."

"We can...it might be harder because our bond isn't as strong as say, with Andre." Jude pulled his fingers away from Gale's hair when the other vampire moved and met his gaze. "I can do it easier because it's a similar concept to dream walking."

/Awesome! Gale was contented with his brother's answer and snuggled in once again.

Chuckling a little Jude let his eyes closed. It was obvious that Gale didn't want to talk about his date, at least much, and that was fine. God knows Jude had hidden info about Gerry before. "It will be hard for you to do it at a distance, but it can strength if you want it."

"How would we do that?" Gale breathed a sigh of relief. He knew he had nothing to hide really, not from Jude. He just worried about how his brother would react to his recent were encounter.

"Same as we do now, you just have to concentrate harder and project more." Jude shrugged a bit and stretched his legs out a bit more. "It'll come with time."

"We'll have to practice... that way, I can bug you without leaving my own bed."

Trying to hold back a laugh Jude looked down at the top of Gale's head. "Oh so that's how it is huh?"

"Mmmhmm," he nodded against his brother's shoulder. Biting his lip, Gale decided to 'practice.' /I don't want you to be mad at me. /

"Why would I be mad at you?" Jude asked, deciding talking verbally would be easier then mentally.

"My date. It was with... a were." He cringed as he finished talking, waiting for his brother's inevitable anger.

It didn't take any special skill to know that Gale was nervous. Jude could imagine the other man looking at his feet had they been standing up. "I knew that after you said you were on a date."

"But...you didn't say anything."

Jude shrugged a bit. "It was making you uncomfortable, so I let it go."

"I thought you were going to be upset by it," and thank fuck he wasn't really. "You're history with were's and all."

Brushing his hand down Gale's back Jude tried to rub comforting circles. "One were...I've never been attacked like that before. And were's are like anything, can be nice or mean."

"Well, this is defiantly a better reaction than I was anticipating," Gale gave a huff of a chuckle.

"All I can say is be careful. You don't know how to protect yourself if something did happen."

"Will you help me?" Gale asked in a small voice. "Will you teach me how to protect myself?

That question made Jude pause and he found himself staring at Gale's head again. He knew he could...at least teach basics. But he also wasn't sure if Andre wanted Gale learning that yet. "I can, if Andre approves. From what I've heard and seen of sire's...I don't want to step on toes," he paused and shifted just a bit. "I know I can teach you some things. Where to protect, how to keep an advantage...some of what we've told you to suppress - that hungry desire - can help keep you alive if your threatened."

"Surely he won't oppose me surviving..." he knew he was pushing his luck and unsure of why he was pushing it. From their limited interaction, he was pretty sure that Eliot wasn't out to hurt him. Yet, now that he had a family he actually cared about, he was concerned for his own well being.

"He wouldn't be, but...you know how worried I made him." Rolling away from Gale a bit Jude nudged the other vampire's chin up so he could meet Gale's eyes. "Had I not been interrupted I would have killed the were and killed myself in the process. And I did that knowing about Andre and Gerry."

"But you're safe," Gale said the words almost desperately. Reaching up he grasped the back of his brother's neck, bringing their foreheads together. "Thank fuck you are safe."

"I am." Jude smiled a bit and gave Gale's back a pat. "I still think you should ask Andre first. I don't want to take something away from him, the chance to give you advise on that before someone else."

"I understand," Gale returned his brother's smile, releasing Jude's neck but keeping his face in close. "I'm just really glad you aren't upset with me. I don't know that anything is going to happen but... I enjoyed myself tonight."

"One thing I've learned over the last year is that we deserve to enjoy ourselves and be happy. Even if we're damned to the night."

"Resigned, not damned," Gale felt the need to correct Jude. "If we were truly damned we wouldn't have each other, we wouldn't have Andre, you wouldn't have Gerry... we are too blessed to be damned."

Resting his head back on the bed Jude let his hand rest on Gale's waist, knowing the other vampire would appreciate the connection. "Until now I would have argued with you."

"But now you realize that I am both awesome and usually correct," Gale's smile was inspired by both his own words and the tickled of Jude's hand on his tender abdomen.

"Oh, it's all you?" Jude asked and gave Gale's hand a playful swat.

"Well of course, I'm nothing if not humble."

/Brat./ Rolling onto his back again Jude stretched an arm up and looked at his hands. "I hope you don't have to fight someone Gale. I see you as someone that wouldn't be able to hurt another easily."

Gale frowned a bit as his brother rolled away, but resisted pouting like the 'brat' he had just been called. "I've never been much of a fighter in my life."

"I wasn't when I was human. I kind of learned that I had to be when I became a vampire." Jude let out a sigh and let his eyes close. "It would be better if you never had to, but considering our life span, it's unlikely."

"I don't want to fight, to need to," Gale's arm reached out to wrap around his brother not moving his body any closer. "It's just... with what happened to you, I fear that I must."

"Not necessarily." Jude had lived for years without the need to fight human or were. But for whatever reason this last year had proved to test that streak. "There are moments you might have to, but hopefully nothing like me."

"Hopefully not," Gale wasn't too worried about seeming weak in front of his brother, he knew he would stand no chance in a fight fair or not. "That were is lucky he's been protected... I think dad wanted to destroy him."

"I don't doubt that. But I would have been hunted more had I killed him as well."

"I don't think that our sire would have given up the pleasure of killing that were lightly."

Shifting his hips a bit on the bed Jude looked over at Gale again. "I'm sure he has his reasons."

"For protecting us?" Gale looked into his brother's face, confusion coloring his expression. "The only thing that has stayed his hand is the protection demanded by some muckity muck."

Jude shook his head when he realized the other vampire misunderstood him. "No...I know Andre has reasons to protect us. I'm sure he has his reasons for why he didn't kill the were that I fought with."

"Do you regret that he didn't?"

"No." Rolling back onto his side Jude met Gale's gaze. "I wouldn't have wanted Andre to kill him on my behalf."

"He would have, I'm pretty sure," Gale's voice was quiet as his brother met his eyes. "If it was in my ability to do it, I would."

Jude frowned a bit. "And I wouldn't want you to either."
"I didn't... I just..." Gale stammered.

Reaching out Jude ruffled Gale's hair. "I know, but I don't need or want either of you fighting my fights."

Gale shook his head to remove the hair now settled over his eyes before he nodded at his brothers words. "I know. Its just that we're family, I can't help but want to protect my family even though I have no ability to."

"Like I said, everything is okay now though." Jude gave the other man a small smile. "Just remember that."

"Thank fuck for that," Gale laughed and pulled his brother in for an awkward laying down hug.

Jude let Gale pull him into the hug and gave his back a pat.

"Love ya, brother of mine," Gale whispered into his brother's hair.

The sentiment made Jude smile and he let his hand rest on the small of his back. "Same to you Gale."
