HOT

Another scorcher today. Not so hot by typical local standards for this time of the year, but after a longer than usual spell of cool spring weather this year, I'm really feeling this first wave of heat ( Read more... )

Happy new year, Gal!
May 2010 bring the best in everything for you.
I saw a report in the news today about the fires in your region.
Hope you & your family are safe and ok.
*hugs*

Happy New Year to you too, Tibbigirl!
I hope it's a really, really good one for you.
Thanks for thinking of me, too. I'm pleased to say those fires were not close enough to do us any harm, though, if the winds had been in the other direction and the firefighters not as well equipped, they easily could have been.
It's only about a 45 minute drive from here to the affected area, and mostly bushland in between. They lost 38 houses in the small town of Toodyay, but fortunately no human lives. I won't say no lives, because a lot of animals sadly perished, despite peoples best efforts to save them. In a lot of cases, there simply wasn't time for people to do anything but run. They had very little warning and the fire moved so fast, it's a miracle nobody was badly harmed.
This is a nervous time of year for us, living where we do.
I appreciate your concern.

Well I'm glad to hear that you're safe.
I'm always like "holy sh*t" when I watch the news & see that there is a bushfire or something equally as bad somewhere, where I know my online friends are living.
But I guess that's pretty normal.
I have a friend that flew from Berlin to Sydney for a work & travel programm about two years ago and ever since these huge fires occured earlier in 2009, I haven't heard of him.
I'll keep everything crossable crossed, that this summer won't be too bad.

*sends some of the cold & snowy weather to cool down the west coast*
Big hugs from across the ocean.

Thanks. It's years since I've seen snow! Only once in my life actually, on a trip to the US & Canada in 1981.

I'm sure your friend is okay. There were fires in NSW, but the really terrible ones last year were in Victoria. If he was in Sydney and not out in the rural communities he wouldn't have been anywhere near the danger.

Your little furball of a bunny is so cute. I just looked at your piccies!
