Another good loss this week. 1kg. It might have been more if I'd actually made more of an effort.
Mostly I was pretty good, but I've still not lifted my exercise. It will have to be more incidental than formal at the moment, till a few more of those kilos go. Ate a few things I shouldn't have indulged in, but tried to compensate in other ways. Just because Mum fancied chips, doesn't mean I had to eat them too. I was also not forced to share pizza with the family last night. Still, I've eaten healthy food in the right sort of serving sizes the rest of the week, and shall continue to go with that. Will be interested to see what I manage to shift this week.
Meanwhile...aaaaaargh!...we're already well into term 3 and that means the photography for the grad show catalogue is only 5 weeks away. Perhaps I ought to think about stop thinking and actually DO something about making some jewellery. Or finishing some of the pieces I've started.
Otherwise, the catalogue pages allocated to me will feature my face and lots of blank space.
I have an exhibition coming up in a few weeks that I need to get some more work done for as well. I also sent off an EOI for a 'by selection' show coming up in Sydney (with a piece already made and a possible further one or two, from pieces that are partly ready).
Plus one of my lecturers from last year is trying to persuade me to enter a competition that's coming up. Only needs drawings at this stage (there's a CHALLENGE for me) but if the drawings make it through the first round, I'd have to make the piece depicted to get into the second round. The question is, much as I doubt I'd get that far, it is at least possible - so, do I WANT to risk being selected and having yet another project to complete on top of having to get something ready for the grad show?
Well...maybe. Thing is, I always seem to do better under pressure. Under ridiculous amounts of (usually self-inflicted) pressure.
This week, I learned how to prong or claw set facetted stones. I've almost finished a couple of little pendants with orange CZs set into commercial crown (claw) findings, soldered onto pendants I've made. I'm now in the middle of making some custom claw findings of my own.
I'll probably try to put together a couple of rings or some earrings to solder them to. This time I might even get more adventurous than using CZs. There again, those are inexpensive and less prone to breakage than some of the pricier stones. There's a good colour selection around too. I may have to order a few.....
I made the bails for the pendants myself. Not perfect, but serviceable. The first time I've made a bail, so I'm happy enough.
The next lot will be better.
Hmm, just looked up at my chosen user pic and had a thought. Not THAT sort of thought. Well, okay, that sort of thought too...but the thought I was referring to had to do with the interesting placement of the bling. So, perhaps that led to the other thought....but, before I digress to transgression - I was thinking about possible designs for that competition requiring the drawings. One of the categories open is male jewellery.
It is sponsored by a diamond dealer and the masculine pieces must feature diamonds. I was just thinking how that could be pretty dull unless I came up with somewhere different to put the gems..... - and before your mind goes where I haven't quite allowed mine to go yet, I was actually thinking of places well and truly above the belt. Shan't say more till my drawings are made (if I do any) and the contest is underway. Got to start thinking a little more like a professional maker. Yeah, right! :P
Now I'm going to allow my mind to wander. Perhaps even to stray....
- but I'm not taking anyone with me.
Goodnight!
