You should play NIGHT TRAIN by Iron Maiden as your first dance, because it is the most romantic song ever written.

...

HA! Just kidding. Seriously, I'm of no help.

I likewise nominating "You Rocked Me All Night Long" by AC/DC, or perhaps even Thunderstruck.

What kind of stuff do you like? Traditional classical music? Piano only (since you asked for sheet music)? Or more contemporary stuff?

For traditional classical music, the better known songs for weddings (but not overly overused ones) are Bach Air on a G-string, Mozart's Romanza from Eine Klein Natch music, or Hadel's Water Music for something more upbeat. Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring is also good, as well as Ave Maria (which is actually really overused - and it's suppose to be a sad song).

For piano only, you can try a lot of Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words, or a lot of the Chopin piano pieces. More popular choices include Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, or Pathetique Sonata.

For the more contemporary, check out Secret Garden. They're sort of Enya-like, but very nice.

Hmmm - must find these and listen!
Would you happen to have any MP3s or CDs with these songs?

Yes! I have all of the classical selections (although they are packed up in a box somewhere!!!) :( I also have sheet music for the Beethoven selections (Moonlight Sonate and Pathetique Sonata --> I recommend the second movement, it's more romantic)

Tim has the Secret Garden CD handy if you want a copy of that.

Chopin is always nice. Or 13th century French ballads. I can get you sheet music, but I'm feeling too lazy to get to my scanner atm.

Nobody said it had to SOUND like a wedding... idioglossia June 16 2006, 10:49:29 UTC
Buy a CD by Healey Willan. He was a 20th century composer who did very beautiful flowing church music, in the traditional style, never too atonal, very beautiful.

Also: Loreena McKennit, for that "ooo, I like this music" effect.

Minuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits (I forget)
Syrinx (Debussy)
This World (Zero 7) <-- hallo, change of pace
In the Waiting Line (Zero 7)
At Last (Etta James)
Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl (Broken Social Scene)

Nature Boy (Jon Hassel with Ronu Majumdar, from the Angel Eyes OST) <-- I don't own the OST or condone its existence, but that's one incredible song

Sinnerman (Nina Simone) <-- it's long, and everyone likes to listen to it
Street Spirit (Radiohead) <-- very different, but very beautiful song
Half Life (Sneaker Pimps)

I took out the Rage Against the Machine I suggested... didn't think that would work to well IN A CHURCH.

Will have to look up Healey Willan, and a lot of those other ones.
Loreena McKennit is very talented and I have one of her CDs, but I find a lot of the stuff has a touch of sadness and haunting/ethereal feel to it - a little much for a happy day :P

got mp3? XD;;
