There is nothing that industrial can't figure out a way to build in a limited life span. The Prof and I had to go shopping for new bathroom lighting because the LED unit we installed a handful of years ago had it's lights burning out, one by one. We never thought to check when we purchased it, but the lights are installed inside a plastic, sealed box that can't be opened - planned obsolescence. Only now, instead of just buying new bulbs, you need to purchase an entire new light fixture! When we were shopping we found that nearly all the fixtures in Lowe's and Home Despot* are constructed that way.
