The Presidio Relays were awesome. 2x10K (About 6.2 miles), Jack Sharp and I. Pretty baller.
To explain my last post, we were originally gonna have a co-ed 4x5K team, but this is pretty much how it went:
Katie agrees to do it.
We can't find anyone else for a while; Marki's gone, Caitie's gone, Alyssa's gone, Kelly doesn't want to do it, Katie never asked Taylor, Rachel never answered, Claire leaves the day of the race, Iso never picked up.
Jehan can do it.
Oh, wait, her Mormon boyfriend is driving down for wherever and apparently lying to his parents to do so, it's a big deal, blahblahblah she can't do it any more, Katie doesn't wanna run with the Sparks.
Libby can do it.
Katie's being a huge drama queen, Libby's still sick but Crosby's girlfriend Lisa can do it.
Lisa doens't wanna pay the registration fee, but now Libby can do it, Katie's still being a huge drama queen.
Libby doesn't wanna pay the registration fee, Katie drama-queens herself out of the race, JACK AND I GET FUCKED OVER THE DAY BEFORE THE RACE.
We work it out with the registration table. I don't have to pay since I already did; we just reregister as a high school guys' 2x10K. Lots of... unnecessary stress caused, I guess.
Even though it was pretty tiring, the race was really fun. I don't know what my first split was, but I finished my leg in about 40-1 minutes, and Jack finished his in about 41-2. There was this one team from a store kinda close by, Sports Warehouse or something... I was about to finish my first lap, and I asked these two guys next to me whether they were 5Kers or 10Kers, and the Sports Warehouse guy said he was a 4x5Ker. He started kicking in and wished me luck, then somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 into my second lap, this dude was all, "Way to go, man," and I was all, "Thanks, you too... Hey, I like your team! Your first leg guy gave me encouragement." Once I was done with my race, I cheered on their third and fourth legs, but they didn't know who I was, so they kinda gave me weird looks. Haha, the first guy was awesome, though. He cheered for me on my second lap after he finished his leg.
I felt so good during the entire race. I feel like I ran pretty consistently. It was cold and foggy; almost drizzling, but not quite. I thought there was a rock or something in my flats (racing shoes), but it turns out my socks wore thin and my toe was rubbing against the edge of my shoes, so now I have a blister... Ah, well.
Second coolest part of the race: Finishing my first lap, running through the handoff section of the course, and hearing Gnarls Barkley over the speakers. Hahaha
Coolest part: I was nearing the finish, and this old guy with foofy white hair rides past me on his bike, so I'm like, "Alright, I need to kick. No better time than now," and I start running alongside the dude on the bike. With about 200 meters to go, I ki-ai (That, uh, yell/bark thing I do sometimes... Yeah.) and speed up, ditching the guy on the bike, and fly into the exchange area. We had to wear these anklets that had computer chips in them that kept our times for us (which I was really disappointed with, coz I thought they'd look a lot cooler than they did), and the race officials said they'd strictly enforce where you did the exchange... Anyway, there was this maroon-colored mat in the exchange area, and when I crossed under this overhang they had set up, there was a beep (which was actually just the sensor recording my time or whatever), which I thought was telling me that I went too far or something... So I skidded to a stop, let myself fall backwards, and tore the thing off for Sharp.
I ache all over. At first, my legs just felt obliterated, coz I had never raced a 10K before, and when it comes down to it, I really only had three days of training for this thing. Sitting here now, I'm glad I took an extra long time to stretch, coz although my legs are still tired, they're not incredibly tight... I do have that lead-weight feeling in my shoulders, though.
Definitely not complaining it's there. Heh heh.
After the race, Sharp and I got our shirts and goodie bags, grabbed a sample smoothie they had out, and waited for the award ceremony... Which DIDN'T HAPPEN FOR US, god damn. They go through all this trouble and all these expenses (Forty freakin' dollars for day-of registration!), and it turns out, "Oh, hey! There's a problem with the automatic timer/computers, so we have to input all the relay times in manually. We'll mail you your medals, if you got them, and e-mail you your times." We'll MAIL THEM to you. Just to make everything better, Jack then turns to me and goes, "Ah, crap. I won't live in the house I put down as my address when they send us that."
Me: "What! Why not?!"
Him: "Well, it's my mom's. We're moving."
Me: "When?"
Him: "Wednesday."
Me: "You douchebag. I knew we should have given them my form! Why didn't you put down your dad's address?!"
Him: "Well, I never thought they'd actually be mailing us anything! I mean, what are the odds of that?"
Hahahahaha..... Damn.
