Carbohydrates give the body the energy needed to burn fat while doing cardio, etc.
So if you don't want to build a ton of muscle, protein powder is a bad idea. You still should get the regular amount of protein in your diet though. By the way, why don't you want to get more toned? I understand not wanting to be bulky 'cause I'm assuming you're a girl, but there is nothing wrong with gaining muscle tone and strength. It'll make your body look and feel a lot better. But hey, it's whatever you want to do. Just wanted to clear up the confusion with what protein does.
i dunno i just dont think muscle is that attractive on girls. i wouldnt mind being toned though. but im sure having a protein shake a day isnt going to make me bulk up or anything and i'll just get a little toned if i keep working out so ill give it a shot
It's really hard for women to build muscle mass like what you're afraid of happening, so you don't really have to worry about getting all bulked up. Something about testosterone levels. Lean muscle mass is good though, it burns calories even when you're not exercising. Just make sure you get your carbs too though. Carbs fuel the burning of fat (I know, it sounds sorta redundant haha) and protein (plus strength training obv.) builds the muscle to burn even more.
Your body needs lean muscle mass to burn the fat faster. You dont need to 'bulk' up, just add some tone. I wouldnt drink a protein while working out, just stick to water. Protein shakes are ideally a meal replacement/after workout type drink.
Protein is important for your body whether or not you want to bulk up. For example, a 105lbs woman, would need to get 105g of protein everyday, sounds like a lot but really you'd be surprised how little it really is. Obviously when you start adding muscle, you'll need to eat more protein. Also, what kind of protein shakes are you using? Whey, Creatine? I use Iso-Whey.
its whey. is that good? i didnt do much research before buying it. i was just scared cause the thing says "builds muscle fast!" and stuff about body builders and i dont wanna get bulky. but im sure i cant bulk up that much just by drinking protein shakes haha.
No you wont get bulky from drinking a shake a day. Although, you DO need muscle to burn fat..You can have muscle tone and definition without look like a female version of the Hulk!
i ate a donut for dinner last night, so i don't have a whole lot of diet advice. :) but i DO know you need to cut out the smoothies...
i have ddr max extreme, another ddr whose name i can't remcall and ddr supernova (all for PS2)...i like supernova the best. their workout mode is better than the one in ddr extreme... the stats seem a little confusing to me, but what i like is that they'll show the songs consecutively in a predetermined course (so you're not stopping to pick a new song every single time like in the other ddrs)... plus, i really like the challenges and stuff in that star course thing... makes it really fun. i've been meaning to get eyetoy, i think that'll make the whole workout even more challenging.
i'm always up for support so feel free to friend me or whatever. i also have a community for diet/exercise support... (totally_buff) which could probably use some more posts. :)
