Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now, was arrested in Saint Paul today covering street protests on the first day of the Republican National Convention. Audio of protesters demanding her release and an explanation by Anjali Kamat can be streamed here.
On the national news I was appalled to see a reporter arrested, while on a public side walk, for trying to film the hotel where the big money lobbiest were staying. DAMN, this had nothing to do with protection of a political leader, this was suppression of the free press. They had the guy by the throat...the news showed it one time!!! one time, and never spoke about it again. So this is not a surprise and yet major new coverage is missing and the USA is missing it press!!! Well, who do we blame for that?

That sounds like it was at the DNC in Denver. It seems like the police were more sophisticated and managed not to look like brutal thugs during the DNC. I also think that there was actually some interaction between protesters, delegates, and politicians. Barack Obama met with the Iraq Veterans Against the War and took their petition, for example. John McCain will not do that, in spite of his professed concern for veterans.

Oh, they still looked thuggish, they held him by the throat, up against the wall. I am currently not a fan of either party! As time goes on I do not see Barack Obama as a change but of thinly veiled "the same". I had high hopes, but his choice of VP. The same money behind the throne. I am really sad.

I am glad that he won. You are right that the change is going to be very gradual though. The people will have to push him forward. His cabinet looks to be a throwback to the Clinton administration at this point.
I know that she has been treated like this overseas, but it looked as though she was expecting better in Saint Paul. An Irish activist has written a letter to the mayor of Saint Paul in support of Eileen Clancy of i witness, so perhaps that will awaken some local Irish Americans to what the administration has turned them into.
