Yeah. I've become accustomed to the idea that Eulalie will witness the world quickly disintegrating into a man made hell, in which she will suffer horribly, just like everybody else. As much as I hope it won't happen, I read things like that and just become sad and numb because I don't have a more adequate emotional response. It's devastating.
The over-farming thing and the ocean acidity thing are the real issues. It reminded me of a discussion I was having with O'Rance and Katie at the Maitland-Kelly's house about whether there was a moral progression over the decades and that we could hope for a better future where people were more charitable towards their neighbours. While there may be progress in some things, I think that as resources such as food, water and energy dry up, competition for those resources will increase sharply, hence more war and immorality than ever before witnessed in human history.
Maybe you could intentionally instill in Eulalie characteristics that would ideally suit a warlord. It'd give her a solid base from which to prosper in any coming post apocalyptic hellhole.
