Tickets sold out again? I was vaguely contemplating going, but found Faust a bit creepy, so hadn't decided whether to see this or not. There were quite a few tickets left a few days ago, so I might check again at random points in the future.

I didn't see Faust but from what I've heard, Masque is less narrative-driven and more of a mood piece. I didn't find it creepy, or at least not in a bad way. Deliciously creepy at times, in the sense of heightened adrenaline and sensory stimulation, particularly when exploring alone.

Give them a ring and see if they've got tickets the website can on occasion be wrong.

Masque can be very creepy if you get involved in one of a number of 'personal performances' where one of the performers drags someone from the audience into a cupboard for a monologue. I had a very creepy encounter with one of the serving girls who I was following on my own. But it's always an invitation to get involved in that stuff, you don't have to accept.

Glad you saw it as everyone should, it is simply marvellous and breathtaking :).

Yes, at the beginning (while still trying to acclimatise to one's mask) one is giving a few brief pieces of instruction, including the exhortation to "be brave" ie. go along with those unexpected twists. Good advice.

And yeah, I've heard that the website can be mistaken; always worth 'phoning up to check.

Well, the success of the London production is such that I'd be very surprised indeed if Masque didn't announce a US run at some point (assuming they're able to find a building to replicate the beautiful Victorian decrepitude of the Battersea Arts Centre). If it does, spend and travel as necessary to be part of it. You absolutely will not regret it.

This sounds great! I just looked and didn't see any tix available at the moment, but I believe if one keeps looking surely there will be some. Want!

It definitely sounds like 'phoning up for short-notice returns is the way to go.

So good! And definitely recommend going as many times as you can to get it all in - I saw Faust twice and they were both completely different experiences, and I still didn't see everything.

And ZOMG opium den yes - was working out if it was worth just getting a ticket to spend the night in there with a smuggled bottle of tequila.

Yes, I've found myself considering my strategy for the next time. On this occasion, I intentionally avoided anything that drew too large a crowd, sometimes leaving the larger set pieces before their completion in order to seek out the quieter rooms. This time, I think I might hang about more in the central hallway/crypt to follow more of the Usher/Berenice/Ligeia/Amontillado stuff. I also like the idea of finding a room with plenty of reading material and making myself comfortable, just seeing what comes and goes.
