I'm going to be in NOLA next week, and I'll have a meal by myself (as opposed to always having to eat with my coworkers in stupid Metairie.) Where do I need to go?
if you're feeling the whole french quarter/cbd thing, i know for a fact that both of these restaurants are serving up very very good fare under the same ownership:
clearly, the former is steaks and the latter is seafood. both have a superior and stable waitstaff, excellent chefs, and ownership.
if you're uptown, both iris (on jeanette at carrolton) and fiesta bistro (on carrolton just past jeanette, next to lebanon's/cafe nino) have piqued both my interest and that of local critics. i know the former has flamenco on certain fridays, a bonus for the solo diner.
Good suggestions! I like going new places. And I like going expensive places when I'll be able to charge it back to my work... I'll probably try to stay downtown-ish, because that's where they'll probably put me up for the night, but I'm not sure.
Is Iris in the former Mango House? I left before it ever reopened.
well, if you're doing the downtown and quarter thing, i'll throw irene's on st. phillip (italian food, mostly, some french dishes---but prepare for a wait) and bayona on dauphine---though you probably have eaten at the latter already. iris is in the same spot that formerly housed mango house and is still at this point flying under the radar---i had not even heard about it til tom fitzmorris gave it a favorable review, and i live less than four blocks away.
