"Come on, Beat! Hurry!" Rhyme ran ahead of her brother, quickly making her way closer to their home.
Beat really didn't understand what the rush was all about. He didn't quicken his pace even the slightest. School had drained him for that day and for once, he just wasn't in the mood to make it home as quickly as he could. It was a little funny how Rhyme seemed to be the one who had more energy that day. It was usually the other way around. "What's up, yo? Ain't like there's anythin' happenin' back home."
The younger girl waited until he reached her before tugging him by the wrist. "Just come with me." A giggle escaped her lips as she continued to urge Beat with her.
It wasn't long until they had reached their home and as soon as they walked through the door. Rhyme dashed into the kitchen, her bell chiming along with her steps. Beat immediately plopped himself on the couch and turned the TV on.
A few minutes later he heard her come back into the room. "Here!" He turned to come face to face with a cupcake. He stared at it for a while before taking it from her.
"Thanks, yo. Ya made this or somethin'?"
"Uh-huh. Mom and I made it for you after you went to bed last night. For your birthday! It's not much, but big things come in small packages, right?"
Was it really? Beat hadn't realized the date today. It wasn't as if he made a big deal of it anyway so he definitely hadn't expected anything to happen today. Nevertheless, he couldn't help but smile at his younger sister. It was like she said. It may not have been much but it meant a lot. He brought his hand to her head and ruffled her hair a little, a playful grin on his lips. "Heh. Thanks again, Rhyme."
It isn't long before Beat gets up and takes the Dreamberry from the nightstand by his bed. Immediately he looks and the calendar and upon seeing the date, he mutters to himself. "Damn. That time already?"
