Warnings: Spoilers for Week 2 of the game. Headcanon at work. Massive tl;dr.
Effects: (optional) Impatience for the most part of the dream, before a sharp pain begins to overcome the character, then a sense of determination and unwavering will.

Beat stood against the wall waiting for something, anything to happen. He knew that Shades was still busy dealing with Shiki and Neku but he was getting impatient. It didn't help that his guilt was eating him up inside, having left his friends without any explanation for his actions. In his mind, this was the only way he could set things right and make up for his past mistakes. Rhyme may not have liked his choice and neither would anyone else but that didn't matter right now.

To relieve a bit of his anxiety, he began pacing around the room, stopping every so often to tap his foot against the floor. All the waiting was killing him.

A few more long minutes passed before a familiar bespectacled man entered the room. Beat didn't even wait for him to begin speaking. "What's with the hold up, yo! Ain't got all day to sit on my ass an' do nothin'."

The older man simply laughed at the boy's impatience. "That kind of flare is enough to rival Yashiro's."

Beat just let out a loud grunt. He didn't like the idea of being compared to another Reaper, especially if it was some tight ass like Pinky. "Yo, quit your yappin'. You said you'd make me part a' your crew so quit stallin' and jus' get down with it!" His fists clenched tighter than ever as he said that. There was no backing down now.

The man let out another dry laugh, that pleased smile on his face never faltering. "It sounds like you've made up your mind with this. Many have had second thoughts moments before they themselves have become Reapers."

Beat rolled his eyes. This guy may be the head honcho around here, but he's always had a problem when it came to dealing with authoritative figures. He wasn't going to start now. "'Course my mind's mind up! I ain't them!" There's a pause for a moment as Beat figure tenses up slightly. "There ain't no goin' back for me, yo. An' there ain't no way I'mma stand 'round an' get erased by any a' ya." Though he mumbles the first part of his sentence, he faces the man and shouts out to him with more than the usual gusto than his everyday speech.

"As you wish."

The former player could not even let out a "booya" before a sharp pain began coursing through his body. It had began in his chest, slowly making its way towards his back. Despite having a high threshold of pain, Beat wanted to shout out in agony but his voice escaped him. No matter how much he tried, no sound reached his ears as the pain continued to claw at his insides. Finally he fell onto his knees, his palms pressing firmly against the cold floor. His eyes close shut as the pain continued to intensify. It isn't long before a pair of lattice wings formed on his back, at first a blinding white before becoming a brilliant jet black. And as quickly as the pain began, it fades.

Beat remained still, his breaths coming out in choked gasps. He's still not sure what had happened (besides finally earning the wings he had seen on most Reapers) but for some reason, he felt as if nothing had happened and at the same time even better than before. It wasn't something he could describe. Was this how all players-- no, Reapers, felt when they are granted their wings. He let out a few more deep breaths, turning his hand and unclenching it to reveal a pin he had been holding onto since the middle of the prior week. He stared at it for a few moments as he tried to regulate his breathing once more.

"Welcome to the crew." The man's voice reeked of sarcasm, but Beat paid it no heed. Nevertheless, the man continued.

"Now that I have granted your wish to join as a Reaper, I have a special assignment for you." With that, he bends down to Beat's level, taking reassurance that his words would not be lost to the young Reaper. "I want you to erase a certain Player. You seemed to know that Neku boy from last week's game. He's in this week's game as well. I want you to erase him and whoever it is he may partner up with. That is all you need to accomplish for the week."

Beat visibly tenses up upon hearing those words. He plays it back in his head once, twice, still unsure whether he heard correctly. Neku was in the game again? But that wasn't what he was worried about. Instead he though about what the man had said to him. He actually had to erase someone. Someone who had a second chance in returning to UG. Someone who had to go through the same hardships he did in the game. Someone who he considered a friend, despite it all. As if looking for guidance, he looks at the pin once more.

"That won't be a problem, will it?"

Of course the pin wasn't going to answer, but Beat already knew what he had to say. Finally pushing himself up back on his feet, he pockets the pin and faces the man, looking him straight in the eye. "Whatchu, talkin' 'bout, yo? 'Course it ain't gonna be a problem. I'll do it." There really was no turning back now.

It takes a while before Beat opens his eyes and stares at the ceiling. That was something he hadn't wanted to think about again and it had to come back to him that way. He turns to the table where his Dreamberry lay, watching its faint glow die down. With a swift swipe of his arm, he knocks it off from its place. He knew it wasn't going to accomplish anything but it made him feel better.

After running his fingers through his hair, he rubbed his face against the palm of his hand. Shit, now how was he going to deal with this?

ain't too happy 'bout this, ic, reaper's game, a little bit sober, headcanon at work, dream, days as a reaper
