All Beat could remember from that night was pain. A lot of pain.
It was supposed to be a quick late night run to the convenience store. Buy a drink and head on out with it. Easy, simple. But things didn't play out as he had planned.
He had been on his way back to the apartment when he heard some sort of tussle taking place in a nearby alley and had gone to investigate. There stood a small gang of three beating on what looked to be an innocent passer-by, caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. He could barely make out the person lying on the ground, curled up in a fetal position but he wasn't going about to let something like that continue.
With one swift stride, Beat grabbed onto one of the attacker's shoulders, pulling the man to face him. What he saw next wasn't what he expected in the slightest. Vacant, purple eyes staring straight at him. The gang's attention soon shifted towards him, leaving the earlier victim free to flee from the scene.
Before Beat could divert his attention back, he was greeted to a hard punch in the face. Taken by surprise, he staggered back trying to regain his footing. He threw a punch back, hitting one in the stomach. Unfortunately, that move didn't even seem to faze the man. Shock had overcome him and he hadn't seen the other man knock into him down from behind. All it took was one violent shove and Beat fell down hard.
A searing pain tore through his arm as he landed on the ground. Beat yelled in agony, unable to hold it in. He'd suffered a few injuries in the past from both skateboarding and the Reaper's Game but the pain he felt at that moment did not even begin to compare with either situation.
He turned to lie on his back, his uninjured arm cradling to other just in time to see one of his attackers raise a bat over his head. Expecting the worst, all Beat could do was shut his eyes and wait for the impact--
The boy woke from his slumber with a violent jolt, his breaths short and uneven. It takes him a few seconds before he fully realizes that it had just been a dream, letting out a sigh as consciousness flooded back into him. It had been almost a week now, but the memory was still so vivid in his mind. The healing bruises on his face and around his body, as well as the sling his arm was in served as constant reminders of that night.
Beat shakes his head before taking one look at his Dreamberry and reaching over to shut off the feed.
