The exit poll last night predicted a Labour landslide and it certainly was. There are 650 seats available in Parliament (each constituency = 1 seat) so a party needs to win 326 to get a majority and be the new Government. There's no hanging about here! Once the results are in, it's an immediate change and the new Prime Minister starts the very next day, rather than waiting for 3 months.

I don't think anything can be guaranteed with an election. I think that historically, the Tories have never won a fifth term, but it did seem as though the country was heading towards favouring Labour. It seems as though that tends to happen after the Tories have been in power for a long long time. The big surprise was definitely what happened in Scotland and Wales.
