Scary stories. We've got a thunderstorm rolling in (although I doubt it will hit here, they never do) and I'm on holiday until I start the dreaded 'career' search, so I want to read something scary. Not neccessarily gory, although I don't mind if it is. Something eerie maybe. I've read pretty much all of Stephen King's works and most of Lovecraft ( Read more... )

Have you ever read The Haunting of Hill House? It fits all your criteria, I think.

Oh! Or some of E.T.A. Hoffman's stories, which if you can't find a collection at the library, can be found on Project Gutenberg.

Yes! It's one of my faves. I want to try and read more of her work, but I've been finding it difficult to ... find.

Ooo, I'll try that one too, thanks!

M.R. James, although not a lot of truly awful things happen in his stories. You might also try Arthur Machen, who wrote in the Lovecraftian vein.

How could I forget about M.R. James?! Thanks!

I've never heard of Arthur Machen, I'll look him up.

And thanks again.

I always feel very primary school when I say "will you be my friend", but that is what I'm going to say. We have a few things in common on our interest lists so we might get along.

Do you want to be my friend? I'll leave it up to you, add me and I'll add you back :)
