Yeah, I've heard that mentioned; it's a bit terrifying.

It is; fortunately enough, the number of homophobes in this country doesn't outweigh the number of, well, normal people (even though it does in the government ==').
And, actually, I don't think they'd dare to be really openly homophobic, at least as openly as they got a few years ago when they banned a gay parade, and pissed off a lot of people and the EU. So they didn't try to ban anything again. ;)
