Israel vs. Hezbollah

Sure, Israel may be making a heavy-handed, disproportionate response, but I hope my country would do the same if actually invaded by a neighbor. If Israel can destroy Hezbollah, then good riddance. My thoughts, as someone 19 miles away from all this: hizballah needs to go. It's essential to Israel's security, it's essential to Lebanon's security -- it's even essential to global security.

But many, many, many innocent people are going to die. And that is a tragedy. But it's war.

Well, I felt this way two weeks ago, but a lot has happened since then. Hezbollah is still a cancer and I want to see it go away, but it's also a reaction to this very sort of thing that Israel is doing, and I'm becoming less and less convinced that bombing the hell out of Lebanon is going to get rid of them. Plus, they're even bombing the predominantly Christian areas north of Beirut now, which are not even sympathetic to Hezbollah. But escalating is what wars do, and now that Hezbollah's firing rockets all over Israel, this isn't going to stop until Lebanon is utterly ruined.
