You know, I generally feel morally offended when I read TIME, but I recently read a great article on "medical" marijuana in there reminding its readers that pot isn't good for you, and it causes pyschological and physical damage to you. I do think it should be legalized from a civil rights standpoint, but I also think it's the most dangerous substance out there if only for the outright lies about how it's not that big of a deal.

As much of a conservative as I am, I just can't get behind this party. It's run by impractical assholes who are more interested in being bomb-throwers than they are about promoting consumer rights or establishing the moral basis for conservative economics. Ayn Rand hated the liberterian party, and she had a good point. These people just don't get it.

Sure, it's probably bad for your health, but I think anyone who's sick enough or injured badly enough to actually get a pot prescription has bigger things to worry about than pulmonary damage from smoking, or possibly even a little (debatable) psychological damage. Doctors don't prescribe marijuana to healthy people, so the health argument is kind of beside the point.

I guess "bomb throwers" is a good way to put it. Libertarians strike me as more interested in being logical, being right about stuff, and being smug about it, than about winning friends, getting votes, or doing anything constructive at all. In that way, they're kind of like philosophy majors.

The article was about two legalization measures (one in my state, and I forget where the other one was) that paraded themselves as medical marijuana laws, but were actually just personal use laws. The guy who wrote thte article was a doctor who opposed the legalization measures because "the laws aren't about helping sick people, they're about getting stoned, and getting stoned is bad for your health."

I voted for the measure (which didn't pass), but I did really like the article.

Have you ever heard of Jackie Mackie Paisley-Passey? (real name!) She's a liberterian blogger, and she's probably the most smug little bitch on the internet.

These guys should pack up and move to Missoula. More than once, I've seen students on campus smoking in broad daylight like they don't even care.

And recently I-2 passed, which "recommends" to city law enforcement that marijuana-related citations are to be their lowest priority. As if that wasn't enough, it also established a board of citizens to oversee such citations. Pot-heads are now regulating the cops, bitches. I love it.

I want a libertarian Christmas tree ornament. Because they're so cute.
