I love Apple computers, and I think Mac OSX is a far superior operating system to Windows XP. I just recommended to both my mom and my girlfriend that they make the switch, and they both did. However, as a result, I have been plunged into a hellish nightmare of hardware compatibility issues. Last night, I spent four hours trying to get my ( Read more... )

Well, with the Intel chip switch, it's a whole new ballgame. I'm gonna wait for a bit longer. Well, that and I'm broke.

I think my probems are software issues that don't have much to do with the intel chip switch. But OSX 10.3 and 10.4 have different compatibility issues, which reminds me how much I hate the fact that they make you buy a new OS every year. Tiger came out a year after I bought my PowerBook G4, which still has Panther, and now they're already giving us sneak peeks of Leopard. For christ's sake, I hope they run out of felines pretty soon.

Ouch -- my transition went more or less entirely painlessly, though then again I wasn't really dealing with any peripherals other than an external hard drive. I've heard stories about printers, though -- weird. To date, my only real complaint about Mac OS is that the Chinese input software isn't all that good, though there's a nice third-party IME called QIM that works pretty well.

Well, I'm kicking myself for buying a Linksys wireless router, when I could have bought Apple's Airport express for only a little more, and it has a print server built in. With printers, though, I didn't have that option--Apple doesn't make printers. I actually like the Chinese IME just fine, except for the fact that you can't input tones when typing simplified, and you can't do 联想 when typing traditional. But that's how the IME's in China and Taiwan work, so I can see why they did that.
