I feel ya-- I'm run off my feet just trying to keep one girl in garb! Of course, I do multiple eras, so that doesn't help. She got a renaissance peasant gown this year, and she needs new dress for the middle ages, colonial era and civil war era this year. Le sigh. At least she's in school now so I have some sewing time.

How do you do hosen? It looks hard, and I'm scared to try. Do you have a base pattern you use?

take a pair of jeans that are a)dirt cheap from Goodwill b)torn or almost outgrown
put on child
pinch and pin a seam down the buttcheek and straight down the leg. mark with sharpie or chalk.
you will cut down this marked back cheek/leg, and around the "rise/crotch" seam, ignoring any side leg seams.
you will probably want to raise the waist line up higher than most jeans go these days!
this will give you a seriously demented vaguely y shaped pattern. if you cut it on the bias there will be a good bit of flex and stretch, but the pair that worked best was cut on the grain and out of a heavy heavy flannel.

I don't bother with trying to put feet on them, as my kid is happier in socks. I'm glad only the one kid wants hosen... and I'm probably going to try to find him some stretch leggins for backup.

and if they don't grow TOO crazy, the pattern is pretty easy to draft up a bit... my current pattern needs a total overhaul, and teens are growing like -bleeping- weeds!
