Went for our first time at the gym. First you go for a brief physical where they take your blood pressure and pulse, look at the forms you filled out, then they make the momentous decision whether to let you start to exercise before your doctor's office returns the form. Sorry you had such a tough time at the gym. If I'd been there I would have showed you how to use stuff. (We all go a tour of our gym and how to use it when we first started university). There's still a lot of stuff I don't know how to use. The trick is to stick to the basics and gradually move up to the weird stuff. Start with a treadmill, a bike, or an elliptical orbitor (like a Ski machine that goes in circles). I know you could do all those at home, but the idea is to get comfortable doing them at the gym. After you've gotten comfortable doing those, had a couple good sweats, try one other thing. Something simple like a leg lift machine or an arm curl. Just go slow. Don't feel bad, there are still some machines I won't do, just cause I look completely ridiciously doing them, like pull-ups. I have no arm stregth, I admit it, but there are better ways to build it up than shakingly doing one and dropping in exhaustion in a room full of strangers. Awww, that sounds absolutely sucky! I think I'd feel the same way that you did, if it weren't a cute, homey gym like Earlham's (which it certainly sounds like it is not).

Still, your commitment to keep going is amazing!
