Am I the only one who thinks most of these girls look all wrong? Tsutako and Yoshino strike me as halfway decent, and the others - especially Shimako - are just awful.

Sure, in the looks department half of them don't seem to be close enough to mimic their book equivalents, and it's easy to blame the casting director for what seem to be poor choices of physical appearance, but however, what I really want to judge is the execution of the storyline; would the film work just as well as the book? Would the actresses pull off an impressive performance of a caliber that's already been set by the anime?

We don't know for sure, but the director -- Kotaru Terauchi -- already had some prior experience on an animated feature.

Shimako's hair... so frizzy...

I realize they were trying to imitate the wave, which was fine, but... make it SIT. Also, I'm somewhat saddened that Shimako doesn't seem to stand out as much as Sei seems to. (Probably a fairly decent casting there, she at least looks only half-Japanese, even if she may not be? IDK.)

Bleh. Want it to just be out already, so I can enjoy it and spork it, then really make a final decision only after those are done!
