Personality:
Ever since she was little Shiemi has been exceptionally shy and her body a bit week. Because of that she didn't attend school and never made any friends. Due to her mother being so busy running the exorcist shop Shiemi spent most of her time helping her grandmother in her garden. It was there that Shiemi learned about many different plants and of Amahara, a place where God gathered all the plants of the world. Ever since hearing the story Shiemi has wanted to visit it.When she grew a bit older she decided to go out and search for it, showing her dedication. Her grandmother convinced her to just go look around nearby their home town though. Upon her return, Shiemi found her grandmother dead in the garden. Shiemi blamed herself, if she had stayed home and helped with the grape vines her grandmother might have not had the accident. She would still be alive.
While mourning her grandmother in the garden a low level demon tricked Shiemi into working with it to help make the garden grow by sacrificing her own power. As time passes Shiemi begins to lose the ability to use her legs. It's shortly after this time that Shiemi meets Rin. Afraid of at him first since he broke the demon warding gate she changes her opinion of him, viewing him as a good person and he becomes her first friend. With Rin and Yukio's help, Shiemi is freed of the demon's possession and gains the ability to use her legs once more. She also reconciles with her mother, the two having been fighting over Shiemi's obsession with the garden. The next day Shiemi is enrolled into the exorcist classes at Yukio's request.
For the most part, Shiemi is a pretty cheerful person who has a strong determination to become stronger. However, due to her sheltered life she tends to be a bit more naive about a lot of things. Wanting to make a friend on her own (due to Rin telling the boys that Shiemi and him were NOT friends) she attempts to befriend Kamiki and Paku. In her attempts she seems to miss how Kamiki makes fun and belittles her and in the end winds up being used by her to run errands and carry her bags everywhere. When Paku brings up that Shiemi doesn't have to carry the bags Shiemi responds that she doesn't mind, because she is helping her friend. When Rin confronts her about her being Kamiki's slave, Shiemi gets angry and tells him how she wants to stop hiding behind others and become stronger in her own way. That Kamiki is her first friend.
Shiemi gets to show a bit of her strength and determination to become stronger when Paku and Kamiki are attacked during their summer training camp. Seeing Rin not hesitating after hearing the girl's screams, she follows after him instead of going to Yukio for help like Rin told her. She charges in and tells Rin to distract the demon, giving her the chance to help treat Paku's wounds with her familiar. Thanks to her quick action Shiemi is able to save Paku.
Afterward Shiemi resolves to find ways to be useful to everyone and is able to show her growing determination when the camp is attacked again the following night. By using her familiar to grow a wooden barrier she is able to help keep the others safe long enough for the ghouls to be destroyed. Her quick thinking and determination to keep the barrier up despite her draining stamina earns her praise and recognition among the other students. Despite her hesitation at applying to become an exorcist, she does eventually do so and is promoted along with the rest of the class to an exwire.
After the fiasco forest training session where everyone learns about Rin's true heritage, Shiemi becomes shy around him. However, it doesn't seem to be out of fear, but more out of uncertainty about how to handle the situation. When the group is punished for Bon and Kamiki fighting Shiemi is attacked by one of the baryon Rin burns it off with her flames which she feels are warm and not hot. When Shima makes a run to get another exorcist to put out the seats which caught fire it is Shiemi who stops him, stating that Rin hadn't gone berserk, that there wasn't a need for a teacher to get involved.
Upon arriving in Kyoto Shiemi resolves to continue to try even harder to make up for the trouble she got into during the forest, feeling as though she had failed. However, her spirits continue to stay low as she no longer call out Ni-Chan, her familiar, and causes some slight trouble while helping, dropping a pot of tea on Kamiki. While picking herbs so confesses her doubts and insecurities to Kamiki, stating that part of them stem from Yukio and Rin hiding their parentage from her even though it was important and they were all close. Kamiki says Shiemi is as bold and shameless as a weed for confessing her feelings without fear of embarrassment. Instead of being insulted, Shiemi finds strength in the words as she likes weeds and vows to do her best, just like the weeds do.
Overall, Shiemi is still continuing to grow up from the shy girl she used to be. She has many doubts and fears about herself, but through the bonds she's forming with her friends she is gradually becoming stronger.
Extra:
Character Abilities: Shiemi has the rare talent of being able to summon a demon familiar who she can use to aid her in and out of battle. So far it has shown two abilities:
-The ability to generate an aloe plant which can have its juice used to heal wounds and mashou (injury inflicted by a demon).
-The ability to create a large barrier of wood and tree roots for protection. However, this particular ability drains her stamina the longer it's in use.
Possessions: Her uniform and the piece of paper with the summoning circle for Ni-chan.

[With a startled gasp Shiemi sat up straight in her futon, heart racing. Something felt wrong and out of placed. Glancing around the darkened room that was filled with sleeping volunteers she saw it. The most beautiful music box she had ever seen. Pushing her covers off she quietly made her way over to it, being careful not to step on or awaken anyone else. She couldn't say why, but she really wanted to hear its song. A music box with such decor and ornate design would surely play a lovely melody.]
I wonder what song it will play...
[Her fingers found the key and turned it until it stopped. Opening the lid the gentle tinkling of notes filled the air and her ears. Shiemi couldn't name the tune, but it was beautiful and closing her eyes she could envision an epic tale of a prince searching for a lost princess. He battled dragons and pirates, traveled across danger lands, finally saving the princess from an evil king.
As the song ended and she opened her eyes she was drawn from the enchantment with the realization that she was no longer in the ryokan. No, this place was some where she had never seen before. Glancing back in her lap she saw the music box was gone and in it's place a smaller object.]
What... what is this? What's going on? Kamiki-san? Suguro-kun?
