Music for Birthday

Nov 25, 2004 13:04

I got up this morning and collected my post to find a few cards wishing me a happy birthday from my family. To my pleasant surprise two of them contained some money. It still shocks me that people put cash in cards and just stick a first class tamp on them and hope they get there. So rather than stick it in the bank and watch it get swallowed by ( Read more... )

Thanks mate,

There are few band names I do not recognize like Moloko and Warrior Soul yet I do not think there is anything on the list I would not buy.

I will add the list to my palm and see if any are the shop when I go back thanks.

I wonder what everyone else is going to recommend

Interesting and diverse range you bought there :)

I won't list ten albums as I am far too fickle and easily distracted to do that (GRIN) but I would recommend that you check out either a band called Tyketto (albums would be called 'Don't Come Easy' or 'Strength in Numbers') or Vaughn (albums would be called 'Soldiers and Sailors on Riverside' and 'Fearless'). They are pretty much the same band (same singer on both, and much of the same musicians too) and range from solid hard rock to blues to the most soulful and heartbreaking of ballads.

Definitly worth checking out (I personally am obsessed! LOL)

I went to see Vaughn live earlier this year. It was probably the gig of the year thus far. Fantastic. However, I went to see Tyketto a couple of weeks ago and they were really disappointing. It's funny how much difference a change of one member can make (although the distinct lack of volume on th bass drum was largely to blame as well).

Gareth - I can try to remember to bring copies of "Soldiers and Sailors" and "Don't Come Easy" at the weekend if you want, but they are very much cheesy hair metal (something with which I have never had an issue).

Who are you and why have I never met you (that I know of LOL)????

I just saw Tyketto on their Reunion tour and they are as great as ever, and have seen Vaughn a couple of times this year (plus Danny on a solo acousticy type tour).

The poor Tyketto tour that you are talking about was the Shine era, when Danny was out of the band with family issues and Steve Augeri (of the new Journey) was on vocals ... won't say that it was bad but it defintely wasn't Tyketto.

... I may have to argue about the 'cheesy hair metal' part though as apart from some tracks on Don't Come Easy they are more akin to rock/blues IM(notso)HO of course ;o)

Added you by the way, hope that you don't mind.

Jay

No, I don't mind you adding me at all, so long as you don't get offended if I don't add you back. I only tend to "friend" people I know. :-) Mind you, given the number of mutual friends it is entirely possible that I do know you and just haven't connected a face to an LJ username. Who knows?

I'm afraid the Tyketto tour I'm referring to is the reunion tour: I saw them on 13th November this year, and, quite frankly, they sucked. Maybe I just got them on a bad night.

If you could only have ten albums what would you keep? november_girl November 25 2004, 18:16:40 UTC
I don't know your taste well enough to recommend things that you might like, so I'll answer your second question. In no particular order:

1. Lynryrd Skynryrd - "Vicious Cycle"
2. Moby - "Play"
3. New Model Army - "Thunder and Consolation"
4. Fields Of The Nephilim - "Elizium"
5. The Dogs D'Amour - "More Unchartered Heights of Disgrace"
6. Iron Maiden - "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"
7. Depeche Mode - "Songs of Faith and Devotion"
8. Dido's first album
9. Robbie Williams - "Escapology"
10. All About Eve - "Touched By Jesus"

I would also second all of ephraim's recommendations - they're all good albums - I haven't heard the Moloko one through as an album, but the tracks I've heard are great.
