I am thinking of having my hair undercut but leaving my pony tail. I have asked my HR department if this is going to cause any problems because the only way to fix it will be to cut the rest of hair off and I do not want to lose the length of my hair.  I hope they say its ok because I really feel like a change.  It does bug me a little that I have

Once upon a time, when I had long flowing locks, I thought it would be a great idea to shave the right hand side off, keeping the lenght at the back and have a few extensions plaited in with little silver beads at the ends to hang over the shaved side. I was a student at the time so no probs with bosses and it looked great.
A word of caution - my hair took ages to grow back and when it did it didn't look as long as it had before.
But the style you've chosen looks good and if that's what you want and you can get away with it at work then go for it. Looking forward to seeing it when its done. Good luck.

There are too many prejudices in this world - and appearance for the work place is one of them. As stated previously - how can a haircut affect your work?

Perhaps its for the best - your hair looks great anyways.
