[ FOREWARD DATED TO 1/12! Sakura has her hair pulled back, up in a ponytail as she sits in a private reading room at the library. She's forgotten about the pencil stuck in her hair for safe-keeping; the eraser end is visible as she adjusts the Guide.
Something's been stuck in her craw for a while now, and she's finally acting on it. ]
I'd like to speak to all refugees on or off the network if they have any experience with medicine, healing, therapy, rehabilitation, or anything else.
[ She straightens in her seat, looking serious. ]
For those of you who've been here long enough, you've probably seen how difficult to impossible it is to work with the hospitals in any meaningful capacity. The variety in our collective backgrounds can provide us with all the experience in our world, and then some, but without the paperwork and tests taken to leave you with the diploma to frame and hang in an office in the city here, it doesn't end up meaning much to the Thor as a whole. What I'm proposing is taking initiative on our own and forming some sort of Refugee Neighborhood Clinic and related services.
It's not so much to be price competitive as the hospitals are more than reasonably affordable, though it'd be a nice gesture of community if we were suporting each other for all kinds of services rendered, on the belief that the refugee group is the only one that can prioritize itself. It's more the flexibility and services such a clinic might be able to provide, like training in first aid courses that focus on relevant species and allowing for medical response teams to be formed to respond to on ship and on planet occurrences. It could be expanded into a sort of central hub for helping refugees make connections and take on or find employment better suited to their individual skills, but to start with, I was only thinking about a way to start those of us with medical backgrounds actively practicing again.
[ She breathes in deep, then breathes out. ]
There are a lot of factors to take into consideration, but I wanted to ask and hear back from anyone even remotely interested. I, for one, want to be able to help people in a way like I could at home. Doing odd jobs month to month or hoping that I can hire on at the hospital isn't cutting it.
[ She lays her hands flat on the table. ]
Thoughts?
