[ There is a high-pitched whistling audible on the Guide today -- nothing too loud, but it might certainly be unexpected. After a few seconds of this, the video flickers on, and a grinning Time Lord is visible on your screen. ]Friends, Vogons, citizens of the good ship Thor, lend me your ears ( Read more... )

[He mostly seems introspective at this, and the question he asks is quiet all the same.]

Another Doctor?

Ah. Right.

[ another second pauses ]

No, seriously, though. You're not just winding me up because I'm new, are you?

[An eyebrow quirks.]

No. [But if he can't handle this... Maybe it's just better to warn-] Stranger things have happened on this ship.

Generally speaking, the thing that apparently powers the ship's movement is called the Improbability Drive. [And by the look he's giving you, it's obvious what kind of shenanigans one can get up to with that name. And perhaps how much he disapproves of them.]

[ repeating slowly, like he's testing it out ] Improbability Drive.

Well! Sounds fun! Or, judging by the look on your face, I reckon it's not quite as fun as I'm thinking it might be.

It usually serves as a good distraction from getting any real answers.

[He's not sure if you're being smart with him. As such there's a brief pause and an unsure, though decidedly not annoyed, look before he speaks again.]

Either way, someone else who isn't buying into them so easily is better in the long run.

[ The Doctor, for his part, meant no harm, so he's smiling brightly in response. ]

Exactly! Two minds are better than one. And, if you don't mind my saying, I've got quite a mind.

It was Atem, yeah? I'll let you know if I find anything out. Can I expect the same from you?

[The smile puts him a little more at ease, the words more so. It earns a grin in response and a nod.]

Ah. Sharing information is a surefire way to get to an end goal quicker.

[ he nods in response ] Good man!

Is there any sort of encryption software built into the Guide, or should I use my amazing knowledge of all things technical to whip something up?

note_atem June 2 2011, 01:44:58 UTC
Encryption software? [You are asking the complete wrong person for this and the confused look on his face probably says as much.]

Do you mean like filters or locks? [He's hoping he doesn't look like a total idiot right now.]

doctorate June 2 2011, 02:24:17 UTC
Right! Exactly like that. Like, private notes, sent person-to-person. Anything that keeps outside parties from reading it.

[Oh good so he's not an idiot just technologically resistant shh. He gives a nod.]

You can set up your own and the varying degrees of strength as far as I'm aware.

I'll be sure to make mine extra-strength-private, then. Prevents prying eyes from spying.
