[Gives. No. Shits.]

I hope you know I'm going to make your life miserable.

I suspected so, yes.

[Let's see... Karen's values...]

And you do realize you broke the rules of the institution you hold so dear, yes?

[That surprises her.]

I did?

I am not at entry level of education, nor am I a 'child under 12 years of age.' Possibly a petty rule, considering the multitude of intergalactic cultures aboard this ship, but a rule nonetheless, isn't it? I know how you feel about rules.

Enjoy working your every waking hour.

Adherence to the letter of the rules while ignoring their meaning is exactly what I don't support. You are very young compared to other beings of your culture with comparable lifespans, and while you are well-educated in some areas, there are areas of basic knowledge which you've never touched due to your environment. Those are the conditions that are interpreted as the stated rules for the sake of simplicity.

[Spirit of the rules? She knows of no such thing.]

So now you're going on about my age in relation to other? And where would that put those younger than me?

[It's what separates us from the beasts.]

It depends on how much younger. Some would also be in primary school, at lower grade levels. Others would be too young for school altogether.

You do realize that Patchouli is four hundred years younger than I am? Or something around there.

She is?

Yes, Karen.

...does that mean you didn't have any kind of teaching until you were over four hundred years old?

[Goddammit why did she draft the smart one.]

Of course I did. Four centuries is a long time, you know. And I still had access to the mansion's library. [Except it looked like a normal manor library, then.]

[So she'll never find herself surrounded by idiots?]

You did? I always just assumed Knowledge-sensei brought it in with her.
