FANG 03 ❀❧ 『when I leaned in your direction, oh, I leaned much too far』

〖VOICE〗

He that is uneasy at every little pain is never without some ache.

[a sigh]

I am rather grateful for the change of moons, thank you. This occupation ceased to be amusing quite a while ago.

Endurance is a useful quality here.

Occupation? You wouldn't by any chance mean a mission, would you?

Anywhere.

Mm. To be king of an anthill only means there's a great, big, wide, wonderful world out there to conquer, no?

I stand corrected.

Some say it's better to rule in hell than serve in heaven. What sort of mission was it for its conclusion to bring you such relief?

The real worry would be ruling in Heaven, I'd say. All those people to please.

Affairs in vanity, you could say.

I thought the whole point of ruling in heaven was that all those in your company would seek to please you? Not that I'd approve of such an arrangement.

[a faint chuckle]

As vague as always. Likely not your own vanity, I gather. Was it a learning experience, at least? Did you sign up for it of your own volition?

Whose heaven would that be? Being lavished upon was never my idea of an afterlife.

It was not a learning experience, and yes I did. In fact, if I learned anything, it was that humans tend to act predictably and can be reigned in like cattle to a slaughter with a few wild, barking dogs.

That of a creator with a jealous streak.

[Judeo-Christian myth. Man in God's image? More like God in man's image.]

Call it data to support a previously proved hypothesis then. So you chose to subject yourself to duress? At least you got to pick your poison.

And what is the religion of choice where you come from, Une?

If it's proved, why need my data? That's just overkill. No, I think what you likely are, is curious.

Truth be told, I think the religion of choice back home was capitalism. All that warmongering did bring in a hefty profit for a few moguls.

As for being curious, I'll plead guilty to that charge.

At least it's something reliable.

What do you propose you do to fix your rather unwelcome stasis?

Answers and understanding. Both in short supply.

Those are brave words, to be sure. And if the answers dissatisfy you and the understanding is short-lived?

Some say it's better to have something sub par than nothing at all. With the former, one at least has something to work with.

One needs a foundation to build upon.

A solid one, at that. One to be trusted.
