Finally, satisfied, she steps back and you can see her face. She's wearing a rather stern expression and she takes a deep breath before she begins.]I have an announcement to make ( Read more... )

It seems we're co-workers then. Any leads?

Not as such, but I think we might start by asking the doors. They see nearly everything.

The doors?

Yes, of course. They might take some persuading, but it only stands to reason that they must have seen if anyone entered a room without permission or left with underwear that wasn't theirs.

But aren't they...inanimate?

[all the confusion]

Oh no, not on the ship. They're just like people, only door-shaped.

You really should at least say hello to them when they open for you. It's only polite.

Oh...I wasn't aware of that. How would questioning a door go about? I have a lead of my own, actually. It pertains to the job listings.

You'd just ask them, really. If they've seen anyone who didn't belong or carrying underwear, that sort of thing.

Many of them like to talk. I think sometimes they can be a little lonely. There have been jobs focused on cheering them up in the past, but it's been awhile, so they'd probably enjoy a conversation.

What about the job listings?

I'll see what I can do.

[when nobody's looking, at least]

As for job listings, I saw on the network that the SS Thor Museum of Everything was requesting aid in attaining examples of refugee underwear. Perhaps they're responsible?

You may be right, but I don't understand. Why would they need something like that?

And why would they hire us to stop them?

Alien logic.

Well, they must have some reason for it!

But we should definitely investigate anyone who signed up for it. And I'm appalled that anyone did!

You'd be surprised at what some will do for financial gain.

Well, I think it's completely unacceptable! It's not as though there aren't other jobs.

Some of those aboard practiced thievery on their world. The temptation to practice their expertise and get paid for it may prove far too great.

That's no excuse! There's no reason for anyone to steal from others on this ship.
